Uttarayan, also known as the Kite Festival, is one of the most joyful and colorful festivals celebrated with great enthusiasm in Gandhidham and across Gujarat. Marking the sun’s transition into the northern hemisphere, Uttarayan symbolizes new beginnings, prosperity, and positivity. Every year on 14th January, the skies of Gandhidham come alive with thousands of vibrant kites, turning the city into a breathtaking canvas of colors, excitement, and celebration.
Uttarayan celebrates the auspicious journey of the sun (Surya) towards the north, which is believed to bring good fortune, health, and spiritual growth. It also marks the end of winter and the arrival of longer, brighter days. Families begin the day with prayers, prepare special festive meals, and gather on terraces and open grounds to enjoy the thrill of kite flying.
